This article describes how to balance Svadhisthana sacral chakra. A chakra is a focal point in the subtle body used in a variety of ancient meditation practices. Chakras have a direct impact on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of an individual.
Svadhisthana is the second chakra. The second chakra is located at above the public bone and below the navel and it includes the genital region and the hypogastric plexus. In Sanskrit, the word Svadhisthana is derived from two Sanskrit words, swa which means “one’s own” and adhisthana means “seat”.
This focal point is linked to your feelings of abundance, pleasure and wellness. Balancing the second chakra is important because it builds on the foundation of the root chakra to opening the other chakras above it. For this reason, you feel creatively expressive and joyful when the sacral chakra is balanced.
If there is an imbalance in the sacral chakra you may experience depression, sexual dysfunction, or emotional instability. Emotional manifestations of an imbalance in Svadhisthana may manifest as fear of change, or with issues with self-confidence. Also, mood swings may also be a sign of a sacral chakra imbalance.
If your energy is blocked in this chakra it is limiting the flow of energy in your body potentially impacting your creativity. In the most primal way, this creativity can be expressed sexually as procreation. However, there are many routes to self-expression, and creativity can be discovered through a variety of artistic disciplines. Frequently known approaches include drama, dance, music, creative writing and visual arts, including photography.
Do you remember making art when you were a child? Can you recall the smell of the crayons, and the feeling of the wet paint on fingers? Perhaps you remember the sense of pride and accomplishment you felt when telling a story, or when you wrote poetry or song lyrics, and drew cartoons or expressed our thoughts in a journal?
All these activities engross you in a process that uses a holistic framework to access physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. Children, adolescents, adults and the elderly can all participate in creative expression. In fact, the benefits of creative expression do not end at any particular age. Often, as people move into adulthood they are not given the opportunity to be artistic, losing the ability to express thoughts and feelings that are too big or too difficult to put into words. Using artistic disciplines as a means of self-expression, can be especially helpful for individuals with imbalances in the sacral chakra.
Creative expression can lead to a deeper level of understanding and self-discovery. Hence, art can be the expression of your most inner self, and the process can connect you to your authentic self.
